The Pulse of Radio reports: The SMASHING PUMPKINS will commemorate their 20th anniversary with a series of special concerts, according to a post at the band's official web site. The post read, "To celebrate the band's 20th anniversary, SMASHING PUMPKINS will be playing select U.S. cities in August and September of 2008. No dates or cities have been announced but expect the band to revisit a few specific places that were missed during the last U.S. tour."

Pitchfork Media reported that the PUMPKINS will play in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, and that special guests may turn up at each show.

The group is also said to be working on a DVD filmed during their two-week residency last summer at the Fillmore Theatre in San Francisco, the second of two residencies the band did to mark their reunion.

The PUMPKINS also have plans to issue both older demo recordings and some new material later this year.

The group is suing its former label, Virgin Records, alleging that Virgin used their name and music in a promotional campaign without their permission.

Frontman Billy Corgan recently hinted that the band, who released 2007's "Zeitgeist" after a seven-year hiatus, will most likely put songs out in different configurations than the standard CD.

According to a posting on SMASHING PUMPKINS' official web site, the band will release a new single sometime in September 2008. More details will be made available soon.

I think a previous article said that they would be releasing singles and EPs in the future vice full-scale albums.

Yeah, that previous article would be the last sentence of my first post. Sometimes I feel that I'm wasting my time reporting things here.... :(

And masturbating is completely reflexive at this point in your life and doesn't require any brain cells at all.

True enough... but I prefer to think of it as an art form, at this point.

SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan recently took some time to reflect and share some thoughts in regards to the 10th anniversary of the band's "Adore" album.

He writes on the band's web site, "I was surprised when someone mentioned to me that today was the 10th anniversary of the 'Adore' album...my first thought was surprise that it had been that long since, and how quickly time passes...it seems like a long time ago and yet, in some strange ways, not that far back either...

"Recently, when we went in to record 'Superchrist', it was the first time I had been back to Sunset Sound studios since the completion of the 'Adore' album. Some of the same people still work there, and spoke very kindly to me of the time spent making that album. We were working in another room for 'Superchrist', but I did ask to go to peek inside the other room where many of the songs were cut, and it's funny how time can play tricks with your mind as far as the proportion of things. The tracking room was full of amps and guitars back then, and so empty it looked quite large. I could see in my mind's eye the three of us sitting in a small circle recording 'Shame', a song I had just written that morning...and playing take after take after take of 'For Martha', the band in the main room and me at the piano in the isolation booth, trying to reach them through glass...

"The reaction at the time of the album's release, if memory serves me correctly, was overwhelming negative. It was a very naïve thing to try to do, to make an album that sounded little like the one before, and which spoke very openly about mourning and loss. D'Arcy [Wretzky, former bassist] in particular was very critical at the time of the decision to even call it a PUMPKINS album, saying that it really should have been my first solo album. Then I didn't know what to think, because the hopes I placed on the album, mistaken as they were (that the band could be seen in a more open light that had more to do with artistry), were dashed in all the talk of what it didn't sound like and how it was a failure through and through...and secretly yearned that the embrace of it would heal some of the wounds of my mother's death and probably honestly the death of the band as well...but none of that worked, none of it came true, and it has been a circuitous journey ever since. It does seem to be the demarcation point of what was, and what became, and what might be. Te fact that after 10 years the album has found it's warmer place here and there shows that its birth and death and re-birth are very much in line with the themes of the album...which is one of hope, and taking a chance that the moment lived properly is ultimately more important than in what gets written down later.

"I lived that album quite deeply, and maybe that's why I still can't listen to it... and I can no longer blame anyone if they don't either. It's one of 'those,' an 'other,' something apart...and the pun of the title, crude as it is, serves quite simply:

"Q: When is a door not a door?
A: When it is a jar.

...see, bad joke...

Q: When is an album not an album?
A: When it is a-dore."

SMASHING PUMPKINS have announced plans to tour the U.S. in August "for fun," with performances that "will consist of unique sets and songs." A 20th anniversary tour will follow in November, with dates confirmed in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, and more cities to come. "These shows will focus on the band's history, legacy and accomplishments over their career," the band says. Another run of dates focusing on the band's debut album, "Gish", will take place in early 2009.

Mainman Billy Corgan said in a statement, "The August tour is going to be a blast... Expect a very loud and raucous show from us... and we are very, very happy to know we will finally be playing our own shows come November in New York, L.A., and Chicago... The 20th anniversary shows will be magical... We are already working on lots of surprises."

The Pulse of Radio reports: The SMASHING PUMPKINS have begun confirming more dates for their late summer North American tour, according to LiveDaily.com. The band has unveiled four new shows in addition to a previously announced and already sold-out August 9 stop in Hammond, Indiana. The trek now begins on August 8 in Davenport, Iowa, with more dates expected soon. Tickets for a show in Clearwater, Florida are available on Friday (July 18 ), with the others going on sale Saturday (July 19).

Following the summer excursion, the PUMPKINS will play a series of shows in November to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary.

PUMPKINS frontman Billy Corgan said in a post at the band's web site, "The August tour is going to be a blast...and we are very, very happy to know we will finally be playing our own shows come November in New York, L.A., and Chicago...The 20th anniversary shows will be magical."

A third tour, commemorating the release of the band's 1991 debut album "Gish", has been pushed back to sometime in 2009.

The PUMPKINS have tentative plans to issue a new single this fall, and there's speculation that the band could try out some new material on the August run.

Confirmed SMASHING PUMPKINS tour dates:

Aug. 08 - Davenport, IA - Adler Theatre
Aug. 09 - Hammond, IN - The Venue
Aug. 12 - Louisville, KY - Palace Theatre
Aug. 15 - Charlotte, NC - Ovens Auditorium
Aug. 20 - Clearwater, FL - Ruth Eckerd Hall
