Opeth is pretty cool, I have some friends that like them a lot (musicians).

I saw them open for "Nevermore" in SF., and really enjoyed them.

Nevermore's singer is Warrel Dane who used to sing in 80's metal band "Sanctuary"

Anyone remember seeing them? ...his hair is still 3ft. long...

"Dead Heart in A Dead World" is my favorite Nevermore CD.

"Deliverence" and "Black Water Park" are my favorite Opeth CD's.

My buddy sent me 4 tracks - more gentle ones, because he knows I'm not into all the growly stuff, but what he sent was brilliant!

Opeth has killer guitar tones, and they can mix very heavy with very beautiful.

Once you make the leap over to "growly" vocals you will find that there are some really great bands.

The band that opened that door for me was "The Haunted" ... The Haunted Made Me Do It. CD., the song "Bury Your Dead" first caught my ear.

It may take a few listens, then just like other styles of music you will be able to seperate the good from the bad.

CARCASS "Swansong" is a great CD. lots of duel guitar leads, it was considered their sell- out CD. by their early fans "too mellow"..haha :B

Hey, Sue... Welcome to the club... :)

I'll have to check some of these bands out... I usually shy away from them because of the "cookie monster" vocals...

To be honest, Sue... I forgot all about them.

I started reviewing music here around that time... and I'm constantly finding new music to buy (between here and Y&T)... They must've gotten lost in the shuffle. My apologies.

I'll grab something of theirs in the very near future.
