Canada's CBC News reports that former JOURNEY singer Steve Perry is currently working on a solo album in Los Angeles.

In an interview with CBC's "Q" cultural affairs show, which aired earlier today (Monday, July 20), Perry said he always thought the JOURNEY song "Don't Stop Believing" — which is the top-selling digital download of a track not originally released in this century, according to Nielsen SoundScan, selling 2.8 million units since 2003 — had potential as a single. It was always a hit with live audiences, though it didn't get great radio play at the time it was issued, he said.

"When we were doing the song in 1981, I knew something was happening, but honestly, when I saw it in the film 'Monster' with Patty Jenkins, I started think, 'Oh my goodness there's really something.'"

He added, "The lyric is a strong lyric about not giving up, but it's also about being young, it's also about hanging out, not giving up and looking for that emotion hiding somewhere in the dark that we're all looking for. It's about having hope and not quitting when things get tough, because I'm telling you things get tough for everybody."

New Steve Perry album? I thought his voice was pretty much blown out.

IF this is true (and I HIGHLY doubt that it is, but I pray I will be proven wrong) then.......

Ok, PG, I've been looking all over the internet for news of this album for you and I'm not coming up with squat. There is a possibility that the new album that has been referred to at different places was his greatest hits album that was just released. I'm hoping for you that that is not the case. When I hear anything else, I'll let you know.

You're not coming up with squat because it's not going to happen!
He's done some collaborative writing with people and a few guest vocals here and there, but there's no way he will release another full solo CD. (again- I would LOVE for him to prove me wrong!!!!)

Steve has no official website, but if you want any kind of "official" on him, he communicates through Fan Asylum on rare occasion -

http://www.fanasylum.com/steveperry/

Some good friends of his (who go way back to the beginning of the Journey Force days) are affillated with Fan Asylum and so he trusts them not to make up lies and distort any of his statements and so thats the outlet he has been using.

Love him to death, but bottom line is he decided to retire. As much as I and countless others want to see him perform again....he doesn't owe anybody anything. He decided to walk aways from it all for his own reasons and that's his choice.
I was SO glad I made the trip out to L.A. to see Journey get their star on the walk of fame.....no one knew Steve was going to show up. We hoped, and knew he had been invited (as did all the band alumni) but no one thought he would show up. Lots of tears shed in the crowd that day....it was an "ultimate" Journey moment for me I will never forget. Got to meet Steve Smith for the first time that day too.....it was freaking incredible.

I gotta go listen to some Journey now.... I hella love that band!!!! :cheer

The Pulse of Radio reports: Former JOURNEY frontman Steve Perry is defending himself after a joke by Sara Silverman allegedly made him out to be a racist. Rolling Stone reported that in the new issue of Playboy on stands today (March 19) Silverman says in an interview: "The onetime lead singer of a very popular band from the 1980s" came backstage after a show and said, "You're my favorite comedian. You have the best n***er jokes." Although Silverman didn't come outright and say it was Perry, the button of her "joke" was: "I'll just say this: "After that, I stopped believin'" — which appeared to be a poke at the band's classic hit "Don't Stop Believin'".

Perry, who's a fan of Silverman's and has met her several times said, "I'm really shocked. She was so friendly and so nice. I don't understand why she would go there, it's so bizarre. I don't use that word, are you kidding? That's so derogatory."

He went on to explain the basis of where he thinks Silverman's "joke" came from: '"I walked up to her after the show and I said, 'I can't believe that somehow you seem to be getting away with all these slurs and the n-word, I just can't believe how you're doing this,' and I looked at my friend and I said, 'I can't believe how she's getting away with this,' and she looked at me and kind of smiled. It wasn't like I was condemning her or condoning her, it was just that I can't believe how somehow creatively she was making everybody in that club of all colors and all ethnic backgrounds laugh. That's what it was."

Despite the fun at his expense, Perry says he remains a fan: "You've gotta see her show because she uses every ethnic slur known to man that historically has been very unforgivable. I'm Portuguese, that's the only ethnic background she left out, but maybe after this article she'll come after me now."
