Hey, folks... I'm still alive. :B

Here's the latest from the Land of the Lost...

As usual, I am buying a lot of off-the-wall stuff these days. On top of the genre-hopping I've been doing, I've also been grabbing up a lot of soundtracks, tribute albums, boxed sets, compilations, reissues, etc. looking for songs that aren't available elsewhere ... I've been doing a lot of discography skimming looking for tunes that I may have missed for whatever reason. There are some one-offs that were released only on soundtracks or tribute albums, along with the usual litany of demos, B-sides and alt version bonus tracks found in boxed sets and remasters/reissues.

The latest big example is the Scorps 50th anniversary limited edition reissues... They reissued the 8 albums that were originally released between '77 and '88 [Taken By Force, Tokyo Tapes, Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love At First Sting, World Wide Live. Savage Amusement], bundled with a pile of bonus material (audio and video). One of the coolest is the "World Wide Live" reissue, which includes the original video, which was only available on VHS until now. Suffice it to say, that was a hundred and change down the drain in a matter of five minutes...

Incidentally, there seems to be a flood of "new" small-label/indie releases of 70s and 80s live material hitting Amazon en masse. I dunno if these releases are artist- and/or label-authorized releases, but the vast majority of them seem to be available only via a few third-party sellers on Amazon. It's possible that Amazon changed their rules about what material can and cannot be listed, or perhaps the record companies have begun licensing this material to various small-time distributors to make a few more bucks... I'm not really sure one way or the other, but either way, you know it didn't take me long to go fish...

I did a little poking around on the Web, and nearly all of the ones I checked into were either 70's-era live radio broadcast performances, or they were record company concert recordings that were never released for whatever reason. In either case, since they were just about all professionally recorded, the sound quality may not be perfect, but they are far better than bootleg recordings. I have picked up a couple here and there, and they have all been pretty darn good... A lot of them have some interesting sets too, so they are definitely worth a look.

Big names include: Kiss, Cheap Trick, Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughan... Need I say more?

Hey Steve!

I've noticed Rush and Kiss live releases on amazon that aren't official...a LOT of them. Never bothered to pick any up.

Just now ordered a 2-disc .38 Special Anthology (called, you guessed it, "Anthology") because it has a B-side on it called "Prisoners of Rock & Roll"

Just picked up an album from a new alternative band called "Nothing But Thieves." Really, REALLY like their sound. Dude has a voice that's a cross between Glenn Hughes and a young Geoff Tate.........with a touch of Steve Perry tossed it. Excellent stuff!!

A sore back/neck/everything from the Ghost show on Friday. Worth every little bit of pain afterward.

Steve, you think that $100 for Scorps was bad?

Season 1 and 2 of Love Live! - Season 1 first press and Season 2 just "regular" Limited Edition.

$1000.00 :x

My bank account was not happy...

Beyond that picked up the new Aqours albums and their subunits.
