We all know that in 1978 instead of releasing a new Kiss album the band decided to do 4 solo albums. My challenge to you is to create your own Kiss album using those songs. Rules are as follows.

1. Use only 8-10 songs which should be about the right length for an album of that period.
2, You must use at least 1 song from each members album.

Here's mine.

side 1

Radioactive (Gene)
It's Alright (Paul)
Rip It Out (Ace)
Wouldn't You Like to Know Me (Paul)
You Matter to Me (Peter)

side 2

New York Groove (Ace)
See You Tonite (Gene)
Move On (Paul)
Snowblind (Ace)
Tonight You Belong to Me (Paul)

I gavePaul more songs despite feeling Ace's album was better....just more realistic I think.
Love Ace's Fractured , but Kiss was never much on instrumentals.

It's a fun thing to do while you're waiting for another work day to be over with.

Great idea, dude... :tup

I gotta say though that Paul's album is 100% better than the best of the other three. In fact, it also was the only one that could have passed for a great Kiss album just about as is. Maybe one or two tunes wouldn't have fit, but that's about it.

There's certainly a reason you have more Paul tunes than anyone else's, bro.

OK. Go ahead and give me shit. I'm used to it.

This is actually pretty tough. I really would just go with all of Paul's material. There are a some songs I did like on the other albums, but just about everything on Paul's album kicked ass... and perhaps more importantly, nearly all of them would have made great Kiss tunes. That said, I always liked the idea of the solo albums. It gave us a chance to see what was brewing on each member's back burner and gave us a glimpse of their personal taste. If you look at the whole, the range of influences are part of what made Kiss such a good band in those days.

Anyway, I'll try to be fair to the others...

My album:

Side 1:
1.) Rip It Out (Ace)
2.) Tonight You Belong To Me (Paul)
3.) It's Alright (Paul)
4.) Ain't Quite Right (Paul)
5.) Take Me Away (Together As One) (Paul)

Side 2:
1.) New York Groove (Ace)
2.) Wouldn't You Like To Know Me (Paul)
3.) Love In Chains (Paul)
4.) I'm Gonna Love You (Peter)
5.) See You In Your Dreams (Gene)

Remaster bonus track ('cause you Know Kiss would never give you more than one... if that. :P):
Move On (Paul)

Now THAT'S a fuckin' :kiss1:-ass :kiss1: album!

Notes:
I know I cheated on the Gene tune, but then again, so did Gene. I pretty much hate everything else on his album except for See You Tonite, and I certainly couldn't see that one on a Kiss album. Same goes for almost all of Peter's material (although I really like almost all of it), particularly tunes like You Matter To Me... That's a great tune, but not really a Kiss tune. Of course, considering some of the lame-ass shit they tried to sneak in as side two filler during that time period (Great Expectations anyone?), I guess all bets are off, really.

Seriously, though, to be completely honest, I've always thought that Paul Stanley's album wasn't just the hands-down best of the Kiss solo albums. I think it's easily among the best and most consistent of all of Kiss' albums. Gene was always the attitude of Kiss, Ace had the built-in cool factor, Peter was the heart... but lest there still be doubt in anyone's mind: Paul was ALWAYS (and still is) the soul and the talent. Plain and simple.

When he retires, the band is dead. Period.

:BB Goodbye

I like your list, the one thing I would change is swapping "See You Tonite" for "Living in Sin" - not necessarily because I think it's a better song, but a Kiss album needs at least one horrifically bad "Gene" tune on it.

I'm going to cheat and change Nappy's criteria just because. Here's a 12-track album comprised of 3 songs from each solo record.

ACE:
Rip It Out
New York Groove
Speedin' Back To My Baby

GENE:
Living In Sin
True Confessions
Man Of 1000 Faces
(I think this list could change from day to day.)

PAUL:
Take Me Away (Together As One)
Wouldn't You Like To Know Me?
Tonight You Belong To Me
(More tough choices.)

PETER:
I Can't Stop The Rain (Petey didn't write it, but it's still easily the number 1 pick for me.)
Hooked On Rock N Roll
Tossin' And Turnin'

Ok, I didn't do it correctly so I'm deducting 200 points from myself. But I'm awarding 100 points to myself for color-coding their names to their album covers. :D

I have to agree with Steve on this one. Not only is Paul's album the best of the solo albums, it's one of the best KISS albums. While Ace's album might be considered the best of Ace's career, Paul's album has the hooks, the melodies, and the Asian-flu catchiness of a great rock album.

Personally, I think this would have been much easier if we made it a double album and we got to pick 5 songs. But I suppose that wouldn't be challenging enough for the rest of you.

ooooooooooooo pretty colors. :smokin:

As far as ranking the four albums ,I like Ace's the best , but there's no dening Paul's is great as well. I like about half of Gene's and very little of Pete's.

I gotta go with Napster. I could see this coming from a mile away from the second I saw "little of Pete's"...

A mile away.

At least.
