British hard rock legends DEEP PURPLE are among 15 finalists for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's Class Of 2013, but the band's former guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, recently told Billboard he "couldn't care less" about the possible honor.

Speaking to VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner, Blackmore elaborated on his comments, saying, "I was quoted as saying I couldn't care less about it, and, yes, I couldn't care less, but at the same time, I don't wish to throw it back in their faces. I mean, I wouldn't turn up to any kind of such event. It's not, to me, anything to do with music. Music is about playing and getting on the stage, not receiving awards. I'm pretty bad at receiving awards."

Ritchie also spoke more about what he has against the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

"No disrespect to the Hall Of Fame, whatever that is, I really don't keep up with it," he said. "I mean, there are so many Hall Of Fames and places that are honoring people and a lot of the time I see who they are honoring and it really has nothing to do with rock and roll — very strange people."

I'm giving him points for honesty. Good for him.

Earlier today (Saturday, October 27), former DEEP PURPLE/RAINBOW guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his wife, Candice Night, spoke to 103.9 WRCN-FM, Long Island's classic rock radio station, about Ritchie's distinguished career and their medieval/renaissance group, BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Blackmore and Candice welcomed their second child, Rory Dartanyan, on February 7. The couple have a two-year old daughter, Autumn Esmerelda.

Ritchie, 67, and Candice, 41, were married on October 5, 2008 at a small gathering of friends and family at Castle on the Hudson in Tarrytown, New York.

The third BLACKMORE'S NIGHT DVD release, "A Knight In York", was made available on DVD, Blu-ray, CD and 3-LP set (limited edtion) in July.

"A Knight In York" was filmed and recorded during BLACKMORE'S NIGHT's British tour at York Opera House on September 30, 2011.

BLACKMORE'S NIGHT's latest album, "Autumn Sky", came out in 2010.

I was right there with you... until I realized that he certainly seems to be taking advantage of the opportunity to give interviews hyping his new gig. You certainly don't see him giving this many interviews otherwise.

Is it that he gives less interviews ordinarily or that more people are trying to interview him because of the possible induction?

Probably both... but the fact that he's normally going on about how he has evolved past his rock roots, yet seems perfectly happy to pimp his latest "Greensleeves" special to a bunch of mainstream rock publications to drum up business seems a little hypocritical, doesn't it?

If he doesn't care, why give the interview in the first place?

I was at that show - If you have the DVD I'm second row at the end in a black Sheriff of Nottingham robe.

it was a great night.

i must say I have so much respect for the stuff Richie is doing these days. I now play guitar and lute, and these old medieval songs are damn hard, so to put them through a modern filter and create what he has I think is amazing, and much more difficult, creative and interesting than what he did in Purple and Rainbow, even bearing in mind how truly awesome that stuff is.

Just my view - don't want to start a row when I've only just got back!!

I want to create a book of random comments that I have heard or read and take them out of context. That, my friend, should be in that book. :D

You know.......I've been told that a few times.........that it's actually harder to play that kinda music than just flat out rockin'. Not to say I don't want Ritchie to break out the old Strat and fly again, but I DO respect his wishes. I mean what the hell........he IS Ritchie Blackmore!

But enough already!!!

Blasphemers! Heretics! Burn the witches!

Wait. I was gonna defend his Rainbow material... but that just sounded pretty medieval, didn't it? :?

At the end of the day, Ritchie's gonna do what Ritchie wants to do. Might as well deal with it.

He's married now. At the end of the day he's going to do what Candice wants to do. :P

Now, THAT'S the truth right there.

Let's face it... even someone as flaky as Blackmore doesn't just go and don a pair of pantaloons and trot out onto the stage without a pretty good reason... which also tells me that that bar wench must have a pretty tasty pair of tankards. :brows:
