Only Dave is left from the original band, but he has a great backing band... The other guitarist, John, has been with them for years... the drummer, Mike, replaced Leonard Haze about 5 years or so ago... and Brad Lang (formerly of Jet Red) took the big shoes of Phil when he passed away (too soon) from f'n cancer.

Dave can carry a show all by himself... but the fact that the rest of the band is SOLID means you get your money's worth and then some. Plus, they'll usually play well over 2.5 hours... and sometimes 'til they gotta turn the lights on because the place is closing.

Ask Bob... I like to bitch because they don't play anywhere near me these days... but that's because I know how good a show I'm missing out on.

I first saw Y&T in about 82 or 83 at a little tiny ass club called the Woodstock in Anaheim Ca. The opening band was some unknown American Motorhead copy band called.....ummmm....name escapes me....OH YEAH! Metallica. I knew they'd never amount to anything.

Who?

Ironic that Y&T has been churning out great music for decades and hardly anyone notices... yet, literally dozens of the biggest bands/artists in rock and metal have started out opening for them and ended up being huge.

We're extremely disappointed that we've been put in this position, but Brad Lang is currently on indefinite hiatus as he resolves some personal issues. In order to respect Brad's privacy, we will not be going into any detail at this time. We thank you all for understanding the private nature of this situation. Meanwhile, with Brad's blessing, Aaron Leigh has stepped in to cover the role of bass guitarist.

The above is our official statement, but I couldn't let this go without mentioning personally how sorry I am to be delivering this shocking news to everyone today. Know that we're doing what we can to make this the least painful for all involved.

I'm seeing them this Saturday night in So Cal and will report how they sound with Aaron.

Brad's reply on FB:

Quote:
Ever since the announcement of my hiatus from Y&T, I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and prayers from my family of friends.
First of all, everything between the Y&T camp and myself is good.
There is, and always will be, love between myself and the band/management.

Dave Meniketti always joked that I was either on zero, or turned up to "11" in everything I do, and nothing in between.

I thought that I was a Social Drinker. I am not.
Meet and Greets should not last until dawn.....
It was time for a course correction.

It's time to take it from "11" to zero, and nothing in between.
And, nothing happens overnight.

I am truly touched by the flood of personal messages, and posts of well wishes.
I am grateful for your friendship, and good will.

Much Love To All

- Brad

How was the show?

Brad was good when we saw him the two times, hoping he makes it back into the line-up!

The show was off the hook last night. The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA is a dinner venue with tables that run perpendicular to the stage. Our seats were three feet from the stage in front of Dave's mic stand. Aaron Leigh did a great job, his second show with Y&T, and even played the bass solo in Lipstick and Leather. Dave walked out on our table and was up close and personal.

Excellent... Thanks for the updates, Michael. :tup

I heard about the Brad thing a couple of weeks ago, and I must say, I was a little surprised. In fairness, it has been a year or so since I've seen them, and perhaps three since I've hung out at one of their M&G's (before or after the show). I did notice that both Mike and Brad certainly did their fair share of thirst quenching into the small hours, but nothing I'd classify as out of hand or over the top.

I wonder if it's a more recent development? Of course, folks tend to get pretty good at covering their tracks in these situations, but I would imagine that for Dave & Co. to get involved, it must have been affecting his work life.

In any event, I hope he's able to get the pieces put back together and get back to doing what he does best... Holding down the deep end. Sometimes, you just have to take a deep breath and hit the reset button. Please let us know if you hear any updates, Michael... :B
