I'm embarrassed to say I didn't pay attention to Dave's solo music until now and I'm glad I finally got around to it. Dave does a great job vocally and on guitar, duh like Dave wouldn't. So here's a quick review, my interpretation, for the Y&T fans that have not been exposed to Meniketti. Find a copy for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

No Lies
Hard rockin number about telling the truth and taking a chance on love. Very catchy riff.

Angel on My Shoulder
Nice bluesy song. Dave shreds the shit out of his guitar on this tune. The lyrics are blue too, but the Angel gives one hope.

Storm
Has anyone noticed a lot of Y&T songs are weather/mother nature related? This song is no different. Awesome riff at the beginning grabs you and pulls you in. Signature Dave toggle switch action during the guitar solo.

Take It Like a Man
This blues song is about a guy losing his woman and he doesn’t want to lose her. This could very well end up being one of my favorite songs.

All In This Together
A wake up call to stop being selfish and realize that everyone on Earth are one people and we’re all the same. Awesome guitar work.

Say Goodbye
Beautiful instrumental.

Lay Me Down
This is a very sensual song about wanting to do “it.” It would be a good song to play while doing “it.”

Touch Luck Avenue – Lyrics by Phil
Sad stories of people being down on their luck. I dig the riffs and Dave’s vocals on this one. And the “social” undertones are eye opening.

Tell Me (Why I should Wait)
Acoustic guitar ballad about a dude professing his eternal love. I love the acoustic guitar solo.

Mister Blister
Instrumental with an awesome bass line.

Until the Next Time
Slow bluesy instrumental

I Remember
I love this tune. It’s a reflection on one’s life and the memory of a loved one. I really don’t want to speculate who he’s remembering because I might be wrong.

You can find the lyrics here http://www.meniketti.com/discography.html

You're embarrassed? I didn't know he had solo material.

Great review, Mike! :tup

Love this disc! My understanding is that Dave was pretty sick during the shows, but they were unable to reschedule the sound crew for the recordings because the tour was only a couple of dates. For a guy with a bad bug, he sounds pretty fuckin' good though. 8)

My favorites are Storm and Lay Me Down. Great tunes!

Myron and Chris are one mean-ass rhythm section too.... and Tommy G. plays some killer rhythm guitar so Dave can really let loose on the solos. Ironically, Tommy was on the sound board the first time I saw them at Jaxx. I stood next to the board all night (best sound in the house for obvious reasons, and especially convenient to one of the bars) chatting with him, but I wasn't aware of who he was until after the show. I have a couple of pics of him with my step-daughter (who thought he was "yummy"...).

Two studio albums and a live disc. All tough to find and usually pricey (one of mine was ordered from a guy in Israel... cost a damn fortune!)... but well worth every damn cent.

His solo material is a bit more bluesy than standard Y&T fare, especially his On The Blue Side disc (duh!). He does a few great cover tunes on that one, including Mose Allison's Parchman Farm (which has been covered by EVERYBODY) and James Brown's Man's World.

The bonus track from the Japanese version of "Meniketti" (Train) used to be available for free DL on Y&T's site, but has since been removed. :?

I've got it, so maybe I'll load it into the MP... which reminds me, perhaps Dave or Ross could throw some Meniketti in to give people a taste? :B

BTW Mike ~ You get the other two discs yet? Both great stuff... :tup

PS ~ Mike is our new "once-a-year" reviewer. I just added this review to our master list. He did his review of "Ten" almost exactly a year ago (4/21/09). :tup

Mike - great review, thanks!!! I love all of these songs! I don't have this disc but I know all the songs since I have his other 2 solo discs, though I am a LOT more familiar with those from "On The Blue Side".

So this disc isn't even available anymore? That's a bummer! I love the solo discs I have, but it dawned on me while reading your review that I never got to see or hear Dave Meniketti Band play live, so the disc would definitely be worth having.

That brings up an interesting question. With the ability now to purchase downloadable songs or albums taking over, isn't it only a matter of time before people will be able to download either to MP3 player or disc ANY album ever made?

Yeah, but if I were to get Live In Japan, or pretty much any of the titles on my current wishlist, I don't want some bs internet download - I want the actual disc from the artist.

I got a new Japanese import off of ebay for $35. There are some used ones for sale on there now and a few HIGH priced new ones.

Personally, I'd recommend Amazon New & Used for a "Like New" used copy.

If anyone has a question about vendors, let me know. I've got a pretty extensive list of ones I've used. I might be able to help.
