Thought I would review this since it will be available with the new record "Sonic Boom" it was released in Japan last year whch is why I have a copy of (don't worry I am buying the new one and will still download it when it leaks).

Deuce - Sounds fresh and maybe a hair slow.

Detroit Rock City - Nice bass punch from Gene , Eric is just far superior to Peter and Paul sounds great.

Shout It Out Loud - Almost Identical to the original.

Hotter Than Hell - Never one of my favorites but this version kicks ass !!

Calling Dr. Love - More polished than the Rock and Roll Over version other than that it's the same.

Love Gun - No difference at all.

I Was Made For Lovin' You - They always said the rock version they played live was how this was supposed to be ........ LIARS !!

Heaven's On Fire - Another sounds alike.

Lick It Up - Only real differnce is that Gene isn't doing backing vocals here but you can hear Eric singing.

I Love It Loud - No Change , alway liked this one dispite the 5th grade lyrics.

Forever - same

Christine Sixteen - Subtle difference in the vocals.

Do You Love Me - Slightly different backing vocals.

Black Diamond - Here was a chance to right a major wrong IMO with the terrible slow down ending to this tune, ya think they could do it ........HELL NO !! makes me wanna hit something :bat: .
Eric does good with the vocals though.

Rock and Roll All Nite - OK the biggest dissapointment of all here , what makes the live version of this song the best ?? answer = the guitar solo and it's not here WTF !!

Overall view : if you're a die hard Kiss fan you probably should get this if not you won't be missing much.
Gene's bass sounds great , Paul's voice is as good as ever , Tommy can copy everything Ace ever did and Eric blows Peter outta the cat world.

Cool. Most of the time when a band remakes their older songs there never is much difference. It does usually sound more polished but rarely much better. Some exceptions may include Testament with their First Strike Still Deadly release and then Twisted Sister with the remake of Stay Hungry (retitled Still Hungry). Still hungry in my opinion showed that they have matured musically because there are differences in most of the songs like changes to the solos which were played better than the original and other subtle differences where you can tell they are much better musicians than they were then.

Wasn't the primary reason for re-recording them something to do with copywriting?

I'm sure that could be a reason. If they recreate their older tunes then they have a chance to sue whatever jackass rapper trys to sample them into their songs. If only Ozzy would have thought of that. Then again there is a MAJOR moral issue there when recreating to works of Randy Rhodes.

Actually, I think they played a little trick with that. Instead of renewing their original copyrights (which they are entitled to do so long as one of the original performers is alive), they let the originals lapse and copyrighted the new versions (with Eric and Tommy)... thereby cutting Ace & Peter out of the royalties for future performances and recordings of those songs.

A little bit evil, IMO... but also quite enGENEou$...

That's only fair if you consider the fact that Ace and Peter got paid for multiple albums after they left the band.

True enough... but if you'd stop buying all those compilations, they'd have to get real jobs... :tsk:

If you ask me (and surprising, they didn't LOL), I always liked the way they ended "Black Diamond" in the 80s live, I'm sure most of you know what I mean. I love the song, and I usually play the Double Platinum version.
